Told at Midnight is run by Off Record LLC, 1209 Mountain Road, Ste N, Albuquerque, NM 87110. In this page "we" is that company and "you" is whoever is reading. Anything about these terms goes to admin@offrecord.space.

Using the site means these terms apply to you. If you do not want them to, the site is not for you, and nothing here asks you for anything before you decide.

Everything past the door is written for adults. By coming in you are confirming you are 18 or older, and that it is lawful for you to read this kind of writing where you are.

We take that answer at its word, which is the whole of what the door records. Where the law requires a real check rather than an answer, we do not open at all.

If we have reason to believe someone under 18 is using the site, we will close their access.

Read the collection. Ask for a story of your own and read it, keep it, and download it to your own device or reader. Share a story with a person, the way you would lend a book.

A story written for you is yours to read. We do not put it in the collection unless you do.

Take the collection in bulk, by hand or by machine, or republish it anywhere as your own or as somebody else's.

Work around the limits on how much can be asked for, the door, or the checks that decide what can be written. Those are not obstacles between you and a better story; they are the reason this exists at all.

Ask for anything the rules refuse, which are set out in Help and are not negotiable: everyone written about is an adult, everything between them is wanted, and we do not write about real people.

Use the site in a way that breaks the law where you are, or that interferes with anybody else's use of it.

What you type is checked before a story is written and the story is checked again afterwards. Some requests are refused. A refusal is not an accusation — the rules are drawn wide on purpose and catch innocent wording — but it is not something we negotiate case by case either.

You keep whatever rights you have in what you type. You are giving us permission to use it to write the story you asked for, and to keep it so the app can show you what you asked for later. If you put a story into the collection, you are giving us permission to show it to other readers, without your name on it, for as long as it is there.

Publishing a story is a choice you make per story, with the switch under it. You can take it back out again the same way.

Anything you publish carries no name and cannot be traced back to you by another reader. "Forget this device" deletes what we hold against your browser; a story you published stays in the collection and stops being attached to you, because other readers have it saved and it is no longer only yours to withdraw.

Nobody. Every story here is written by a computer, to order, from what a reader asked for, and no story carries an author's name because there is not one. The About page says the same thing at more length.

[For counsel: what we can and cannot claim about rights in machine-written text, and what a reader may do with a story written for them, is unsettled and differs by country. This section should say plainly what we assert and what we do not.]

We will try to keep the site up, keep the writing good, and keep what you ask for private. None of that is a guarantee: the site is provided as it is, a story may not be to your taste, a story may fail to be written at all, and we may change or stop any part of this.

Fiction is fiction. Nothing written here is advice of any kind, and nobody in a story is a real person.

We can stop serving the site to someone who breaks these terms, and we will say so if there is a way to reach them. Because there are no accounts, that is a blunter instrument than it sounds — it usually means a browser rather than a person.

The date at the top changes with it. If a change matters — something you may do, or something we hold — we will say so on the site rather than only here.
